TinyUmbrella - Multi-Device

I've added support for multiple concurrent devices. Now when you plug in more than one device, each device will show up in a combo box. You can select the device and the currently selected device's ECID will populate in the ECID field and the proper default firmware will be selected appropriate to the device.

I've also made some significant changes to the underlying framework under the hood. In doing so I've added a few new features. First, the links that show up in the console are now clickable. This means when you pastebin your log file you can click on the link and it'll open in your default browser. Also when you save your shsh file you will see a 'Click here to Open' link that, when clicked, will open Finder (OSX) or Explorer (WIN) to the SHSH file saved. No more whining about where the files are saved. (Not that any of you have any reason to tinker with the files outside of backing up the entire directory right?) :) Also, the list of files that show up in the console when you 'Display SHSH' are also clickable and will reveal themselves in Finder/Explorer as well.

I've made some performance tweaks as well so the app should be slightly faster. Lastly, I have added some much needed feedback to the console when saving SHSHs. The messages are quite verbose and explain much more plainly the situation if you are unable to get SHSHs because your device is 'not eligible'.

    It worked for me. I just don't understand how you can save my 4.0 SHSH when I'm running 3.1.3. Oh well, I guess that's why we illiterates depend on you who are versed.

  3. @dstarnik - its because the only thing I read from your particular phone is the ECID. It never changes. All you need to request *ANY* firmware version is the data you can get from any build manifest and your ECID. So, no matter what version you have on your phone, I can request SHSH for any firmware apple has released - HOWEVER apple is only signing requests for iOS 4 SHSH.

  5. @herve - have you read the readme? have you read the posts I've made on this blog? that question is answered hundreds of times over. also, don't go looking for options that you clearly didn't understand in the first place. the reason it's gone is because it was only there for testing for me. NEVER have i EVER said to select local. I was sick of answering stupid questions. i made idiot buttons for a reason. dont select advanced options if you have no idea what they do...

    I have an 3GS and and I just want to load 3.1.3 software and I haven't saved my ECID on cydia. So I understand that umbrella of course can save the ECID on this server but also can create and generate locally the ECID on a local umbrella server for the .1.3 software restore.
    I tried but it doesn't work. I have an itunes error.
    Perhaeps I can't do it

  7. @herve - :) im fine. if you had any idea how many emails i get with stupid questions that are answered in the short readme or a simple search of the blog you would be easily set off by such stupid questions.

    if you had not saved your shsh for 3.1.3 before jun 24 then you cannot restore 3.1.3 /period/. sorry - you missed the boat.

  8. Thanks for a great program. Having read all your ReadMe’s, how do I convert 3GS iBEC and iBSS files I manually saved for 3.x to SHSH? I dragged and dropped, it generated ~null.shsh files that showed as Invalid.

    Should Tiny Umbrella see all the hashes that Cydia has? Cydia says I have several 3.x hashes on file, but Tiny Umbrella only sees the new 4.0 I just saved with it. Thank you.

  12. Thank you. I saved my shsh file but the tss is still pending request on Cydia. I did try Iphone browser to view my UI files but it wouldn't let me go into the folder. Is that because Cydia is not accepting my TSS request??

    Any suggestions?

  13. hmm it's wierd I had use the fwumbrella about 3 weeks ago and was able to save the shsh file on my computer. But today when I tried just for the heck of it because I am on my laptop. It said I was too late and could not do it.???

  15. HEYYYYYYYYYYY, now I am looking at Cydia on my phone and it says, This device has SHSHs on file for the iPhone OS: 4.0

    okay a n00b question, does that mean I can update to OS4.0? If so, any directions where to go would be awesome. I used to go to the mibbit chatroom but either I am not allowed or it is gone or changed their name.

  24. @will & kurt - copy the file from the dmg to your desktop and run it from there.

    @myfootglows2 - read the readme.

    @ge - apple does not check the ecid / device. If you selected the wrong device and saved your shsh selecting Cydia, then Cydia will save that shsh for that device/ecid combo. I have 3.1.1 saved for my 3GS for the exact same reason; i was testing.

    @julieb - no. the 4.0 shsh allows you to restore/downgrade to 4.0 when the new 4.0.x comes out.

    am i missing something? do i need to do a restore through itunes then run the application again?

  31. Windows Admin Rights problem:

    For those who run TinyUmbrella as Admin and still can't start TSS server and get "NOT running as Admin", here's a possible issue: You hosts file is set as read-only.

    As TinyUmbrella can't update it, it thinks you are not the admin...

    Just go to your hosts file... Start > Run > %windir%\system32\drivers\etc , Right-click the hosts file and uncheck read-only atribute...

    @maijed - I don't know what to tell you. Run umbrella, plug in your phone, click the stupid button. Without details I cant help you.

    @All Mac users - If you have the problem with the multiple-Auth requests just enter your password once and cancel the second popup.

  42. Downloaded for OSX. WHen I try running it it asks for my comps password to allow it to make changes. No matter how many times I put in my password CORRECTLY the thing keeps popping up immediately. Any suggestions?

Hi, first of all thank you very much for your work...Firmware Umbrella, I am sorry to bother you but I have look everywhere to find out the avg size of the shsh file (normal or bak) because my shsh file is only 59.4k is that the size of the file or am I doing something wrong? Thank you again. I do not want to screw my jailbreak ( when out) AGAIN once the update is out. I currently have a very nice 3GS Paperweight :(

  46. @the firmware umbrella @maijed: there are no details. i have the exact same problem. plug in the phone, run the app, hit the stupid button. says "processing shsh request...." and it just stays there. never errors, never finished. just sits there. does it both on cydia and apple. this is on an iphone4.

  50. I'm having the same problem on snow leopard (10.6.4 on a Core Duo NOT Core 2 Duo (no 64 bit if that makes a diff). It bounces/flashes in the dock for a couple minutes, then stops and looks to be running, but nothing comes up. Right click on it and only option is to force quit. Also, when it is in this state, if I try to launch another app, i get an error:
    An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810).

    I copied the app from the dmg to my Applications dir. Never ran it from the dmg.

    Is there any logging i can look at to help debug? I don't see any in the console...let us know how we can help, we want to save our SHSH too!! ;)

  51. OMG, after read "Read Me" i can see how stupid was my question above! So SORRY @The Firmware Umbrella ! You made this SO easy! I was trying to follow a shit tutorial I found on Google, and there were só many steps in there (probably some old way)! Now... all I did was plugged my iPhone to my PC and damn clicked on "Save My SHSH". Last msg I can see is: "07/15/2010 00:11:37.531 Cached [1] shsh files" . So... Its done, thought (isnt it?)! I'm new on this, sorry! Guys, READ the "Read Me" before thinking to start!

    Correct me if I am wrong, my understanding is that even if TinyUmbrella can still provide options to store blobs for 3.x.x, its of no use to us, who don't have the blobs saved back then when apple was signing them... We missed the boat and now the only option is to upgrade to 4 and save the blobs as apple is signing only 4 now...

    Appreciate your guidance...and thanks for your hardwork...it really rocks

  63. I also can't get it to work on Snow Leopard with a Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) MacBook Pro. I'm running the app from the desktop and not in the dmg and it just bounces in the doc for a long time then hangs. Exact same behavior as serff, even the error launching other programs.

    Same thing here on my not-duo white Macbook on 10.5.8 and of course not running from the dmg.
    Just bounces for a min or two, with a force quit option from dock after it stops bouncing. Same thing here with the error messages trying to open another app or even run a command via terminal.

  65. Trying to start Umbrella application v.4.00 to save SHSH on iPhone 4. DMG was copied onto desktop prior to opening. Umbrella is hanging on start with the only option to Force Quit. Previous version (3.13) still able to start, but doesn't list iPhone 4 as an option in the pull-down. Incidentally, I tried manually copying over my SHSH blobs from System Profiler to Umbrella 3.13 and saving that way. No knowing if it worked.

    So, at least for me, v. 4.00 is not working.

    Running SL 10.6.4 on Mac Mini Core Duo.

  67. Count me as another SL 10.6.4 + MacBook Core Duo that has the same bouncing, have-to-force-quit bug. Oddly enough, when it stops bouncing in the Dock, it doesn't have an active indicator under the icon like other running apps.

  69. i have a 3gs (MC model) never been JB. I want to save my blobs with tinyumprella. I have a mac and when i run the program it finishes up and says success. But i try to click on the link for the finder and it doesn't open. Also, when i go into the finder, the shsh blobs arent saved and no file was created. i could use some help please. thanks.

  80. Also having a problem on SL 10.6.4. It bounces for a while then it seems open but non responsive. Doesnt show up as a running in Force Quit dialogue. Causes my system to freeze. I cant open anything else. I also tried to go back to an older version of Umbrella, but that wouldnt open for me now either.

  81. I found a workaround for the latest version not starting for me.

    If you enable the root user in OSX and logout and then back in as root, version 4.00.80 runs perfectly fine. It worked this way for both my 3GS and iPhone4. Afterwards I just copied the contents of root's .shsh/ folder to the same folder in my users home directory. When I logged back in as my normal user and launched the earlier version (4.00.22) of Umbrella that still actually started up and it recognized the two .shsh's I copied over from root.

    Do this at your own risk! If you have no idea what root is or the power it wields and trash your install don't say I didn't warn you!

  86. Downloaded the latest version for Snow Leopard (I have the most current version). It keeps asking for my password. Even though I enter it correctly. I even have to Force Quit to get out of it. Doesn't do any good if you can't use it.

  88. Okay, apparently, you must take the installer file OUT of the DMG in order to make it work. Glad I found the literature on this. Now I can get it to work. So, now it's time to see if I can get my 4.0 blobs backed up to Cydia.

  96. OK - to clarify for those who don't understand the instructions form the readme...since I have A+, Network+, CCNA, as well as 17 years working on various Mac OSs and havce never seen it written this way.....

    When the instructions say "COPY THE FILE OUT OF THE DMG - DO NOT RUN THE APP FROM THE DMG!!!"...what they mean is...
    1) Download the program
    2) RUN the DMG!!!
    3) This will open a window that has a program in it called "Umbrella"
    4) Click on this program icon and drag it out onto your desktop!! DO NOT TRY TO RUN THE PROGRAM FROM WITHIN THE WINDOW
    5) Now...from your desktop - launch the program "Umbrella" - whala!!

  98. @TheFirmwareUmbrella I found a reason for those Windows users that run it as Admin and Umbrella still says they aren't Admin... Their Hosts file may be set as read-only and TinyUmbrella can't edit that and is fooled to think the user isn't Admin... Please, inform this on your Read-Me file or in your comments... Just tell people to make sure their hosts file is NOT set as read-only, since this fools TinyUmbrella.

  99. @mash - its a timeout. cydia is under heavy load. use apple. (and try saving using cydia later)

    @Marty - read the readme. what itunes version? are you using 64bit java? I've had no issues with 32 bit java 1.6 with itunes 32bit installed on a 64 bit machine. I'm not sure 64bit itunes will work cuz i didnt try it.

    @Daren - did you take the app out of the dmg?

    I dragged everything to the desktop and than opened it. A lot of people are having this problem.

  102. does this software even work on regular leopard? i tried 2 versions on 2 different computers both running 10.5.8...

    on my mbp it bounces up and down in the dock then stops (without a highlight under it)...shows up in force quit but not when I alt+tab...needless to say clicking on it in the dock does nothing...

    on my mac pro it opens and i put in my admin password, then it appears in the dock for about 4 seconds then vanishes...

    don't know whats going on, but YES i've been dragging it out of the dmg and into my applications folder and even unmounting the dmg before running it just to be safe, and still no luck...

  103. Dragged app to desktop. Went to launch, but it merely bounces. Force quit- tried again- same problem. Root workaround produced no results. Running on 10.5.8 intel core duo.

  104. So - works fine for me on Win 7 x64

    but - the Cydia gave me a 504 error that it couldnt connect, was too busy to go look through firewall and unblock it

    I used apple as the location, saved fine. question i have is should i go back later and try cydia again? or will i be fine with just the apple shsh?

  105. just making sure i did this right. i ran this on windows 7 though i could run it on mac osx if i wanted. i have an iphone 4 still on the connect to itunes screen because im waiting for jailbreak. i clicked save my shsh (with no advanced options changed) but that timed out, and then i tried it the same way with the tss server started but that didnt work. then i changed the location to apple and that saved. will that work or should i get my shsh saved to cydia as well when that works?

  107. Folks, I'm also getting 504 error in XP connecting to Cydia. Firewall disabled.

    Used Advanced and selected Apple. Saved fine. Maybe Cydia is down? Make sure you select 4.0 is you're still on 3.x.x in the Device / Version dropdown

  108. so im noticing, if saved to cydia, the shsh file is 60kb, but when location is set to apple, its 69kb, i wonder what the difference is

  109. I did the same exact steps that im doing on my iPhone 4 to my 3gs and my 3gs worked but iPhone 4 didn't. I noticed the baseband (located in tiny Umbrella) is green on the 3gs but baseband on the iPhone 4 was red.

  116. Just a quick note to inform those who have your userprofiles setup on a drive other than C: (mine is configured to the D: drive). When clicking on the link to view your shsh blob, the path is correct other than the drive letter. Hope this helps someone out there.

  117. Same error as puzky - start up error with java - found nothing in the readme about it. Updated java but same error. Searched the site and found similar errors but no solution.   119. For all you people suffering from the never ending bouncing app on Snow Leopard (and possible Core Duo macs), i figured out how to launch Umbrella:
    Launch a Terminal Window
    # cd /Applications/Umbrella.app/Contents/Resources/Java/
    # java -jar umbrella.jar

    Then the GUI will come up after a little bit, plug your phone in an there you go!

  121. In Snow Leopard, i tried using the
    java -jar umbrella.jar
    option, but i still can't get Tinyumbrella to keep open with my iPhone connected. It crashes all the time and i get these errors:

  123. I just wanted to first off say thanks for developing such an awesome tool!

    I am running the latest version for windows.

    I am using windows 7 x64

    My SHSH was saved both locally and on Cydia just fine.

    The problem I am having is that I cannot get the TSS server to start to save my life. I have read all the comments here as well as the readme and nothing is working.

    I used the cmd prompt to see if anything was using port 80 and there was something which I stopped. Checking again showed nothing was listening on port 80 so that can't be the problem.

    I am the admin for the computer and I right click the tinyumbrella.exe and select run as admin there as well so I don't think that is the problem.

    I check to make sure that my hosts file is not set to "read only" and it isn't.

    I am still getting the "NOT running as administrator OR your hosts file is not editable - Cannot listen on port 80! TSS Server will not work!" error.

    Anything else I might be missing?

  124. Running windows 7 64bit and sadly new and old version DO NOT run at all. It keep creating log files.

    Got the latest java install.
